M-Pathi™ Active Online Learning Methodology

Active vs. Passive Learning
M-pathi™ methodology uses structured facilitation techniques to engage participants in interactions that evoke positive, self-determined learning. Passive teaching holds participants accountable for grasping presented material, while in active learning, participants look for ways to participate in the learning process. Impact and retention increases from a maximum of 30% in passive learning to a maximum of 90% in an active learning process.

Neuroscience & Empathy
M-pathi™ methodology reflects recent research on the power of film to stimulate perspective-taking – to recognize common humanity, altering the boundaries of in-group preference. Human-centered documentary films stimulate a brain chemical called oxytocin which motivates us to trust and cooperate with others. The resulting “compassionate actions” we take stimulate additional chemicals that further increase empathy, creating a cycle empathetic behavior.

Psychology & Behavior
Behavior change is a result of attitude change and the reverse can be true when attitudes change in response to social influences or to maintain cognitive consistency with our behavior. The simple act of participating in an open conversation with the filmmaker becomes a reference behavior that can change attitudes and reinforce commitment to positive action. Participation in multiple M-Pathi™ experiences reinforces new attitudes and behaviors over time.
